Riders traveling through Polk County, particularly Cedartown, should be aware of a person proporting to be a trail ranger and telling you that they have a bicycle shop and can help you. This person is not in good standing with the trail rangers and has less than an ethical character. Do business with this person at your own risk.

This information concerning the ROCKMART LABOR DAY BICYCLE AND ROLLER BLADE EVENT is being maintained on this page for those cyclists who may want to have an alternate ride.

56 miles - 8:30 a.m. - Bama and Back:
Ride to the Alabama State line on the Silver Comet Trail (SCT), crossing a mountain range that creates a natural barrier between Rockmart and Cedartown.  These mountains are affectionately known as the Polk County Pyrnenees.  The ride back is south of the SCT on bike friendly roads.  The return route has 1.9 miles of tar & gravel "shake & bake".  This ride is difficult and should not be attempted unless you are a seasoned rider in good shape.

27 miles - 9:00 a.m. - Cedartown and Back:
Ride to Cedartown and back on the SCT.  Plan on taking advantage of the rest stops containing plenty of food and drinks.  At the 8.2 mile mark (Grady Road Trail Head) you will begin your ascent of the "Polk County Pyrenees".  No shame in walking your bike up the steep incline and braking down hill.  The return route is generally considered easier than the ride west.  This ride is challenging but doable if you take your time and not allow your pride to dictate your pace.  If there is any doubt about your equipment or level of fitness, opt for the 13 mile ride option.

13 miles - 9:30 a.m. - Brush Mountain Tunnel:  This route is a great way to start the day if you are a novice or simply don't want to push too hard.  Start at the Seaborn Jones Park in downtown Rockmart and go east on the Silver Comet Trail.  Bask in the beauty of Coot's Lake and the 750 foot Brush Mountain Tunnel, complete with escape holes if caught in the tunnel when a train passes through.  Breath in the cool tunnel air while sitting by the tadpole pool.  On your way back stop at Coot's Lake and then coast back to the park.
